Zelda Walks Away With Top Honors In This Year’s Gamescom Awards

The winners of this
year's Gamescom awards have just been announced, and Nintendo's most
anticipated Wii U title continues to impress. Read on to find out what other
games took home awards.

While Gamescom's
official awards contain the usual staples such as best RPG, multiplayer game,
etc., there are some peculiarities with the international awards. For instance,
Sony's PS4 exclusive Horizon Zero Dawn won for Best Preview/Vision (which
presumably relies more on the vision half of the equation, as all of the games at the show are previews), yet didn't win Best PlayStation 4 Game, which instead went to
Ubisoft's multiplatform melee game, For Honor. Even more curiously, Steep won
the show's Best Sports Game award, while the Best Simulation award went to…NBA
2K17.

While some of the
genre classifications may leave us scratching our heads, the Gamescom awards
round up a wide host of promising titles. Here's the full breakdown of the show's

Daydreamer: Awakened Edition’s Creator Walks Us Through Its Creepy Dreamscape

Daydreamer: Awakened Edition is a freaky-looking platformer that pays homage to classic games from the 8- and 16-bit era, while drawing artistic inspiration from doodles, street art, and the creepy works of artist H.R. Giger. Roland Womack, the game's programmer, designer, and artist, walks us through some of the game's other inspirations while showing off a nice slice of its creepy worlds.

Womack says he wanted the game to look like a series of handcrafted sets instead of the tile-based designs that are typically seen in platforming games. As you can see in the video below, he's created a visually striking – and unsettling – world, populated with plenty of insectoid creeps.

Daydreamer: Awakened Edition will be available to download on PlayStation 4 on May 31, with the Xbox One version of the game following on June 3. It's priced at $ 9.99 on both platforms.

New Garden Warfare Video Walks Through A Game Of Gardens & Graveyards

Gardens & Graveyards will be a familiar mode to practiced multiplayer shooter players, but it definitely has its own distinct Plants vs. Zombies flavor in Garden Warfare.

Along with showing off the new mode, which tasks zombies and plants with capturing assorted locations, along with a handful of other goals, the video also offers a healthy look at gameplay and the new map, Driftwood Shores.

Driftwood Shores has mountainous grasslands, castles, and pirate ships – a far cry from the familiar neighborhood map  we have been seeing in nearly every piece of media fro the game since its original announcement.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare is coming to Xbox One and Xbox 360 on February 18.
