Get Most Metal Gear Titles In Legacy Package This June

This console cycle has seen the advent of the often-adored HD collection. The uptick in visual fidelity brought about the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 has made these compilations easy to sell to fans. But what happens when a publisher comes back to the well again?

This June, Konami is planning to release a second assemblage of Metal Gear Solid titles, this time exclusively for PlayStation 3 in a package called "The Legacy Collection." The reason for the exclusivity is the inclusion of the original Metal Gear Solid, which we expect will simply be attainable via a download code. The title is currently available on the PlayStation Network.

Purchasers will also walk away with Metal Gear Solid 2: HD Edition, Metal Gear Solid 3: HD Edition (which includes the original MSX versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2), Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD Edition, Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions, and Metal Gear Solid 4: Trophy Edition. The package also includes two digital graphic novels by Ashley Wood. Wood's art has been featured throughout the series' history and is easily recognizable due to the combination of oil painting with digital effects.

It seems that the other PSP titles, Portable Ops and the Metal Gear Acid games are likely to be trapped on Sony's first handheld for the foreseeable future. The inclusions not featured in the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection released in 2011 are the original Metal Gear Solid, the VR Missions, Metal Gear Solid 4, and the digital comics.

The package will be available in June 2013. No price (or the presence of the Transfarring feature) has yet been revealed.

eShop’s GUILD01 titles get temporary price slash; gamers’ wallets rejoice

Japanese videogame company Level-5, known for their brain-numbing Professor Layton titles and the beautiful Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, just announced that the three 3DS games that make up the special GUILD01 collection; Liberation Maiden, Crimson Shroud, and Aero Porter; are all going on sale from April 18th through May 30th (the sale is for North America and Europe). These 3 games were made by some of Japan’s greatest game designers, and each one offers a unique gameplay experience to players, as well as represent different videogame genres. LET’S HEAR DOSE SAVINGS: Liberation Maiden is being cut from $ 8 to $ 5, Crimson Shroud is also being reduced from $ 8 to $ 5, and Aero Porter is going from $ 5 to a measly $ 3. In case you were not aware, here is a quick rundown of what each game is all about:

Liberation Maiden – this full-scale 3D sci-fi shooter was created by mad genius SUDA51, creator of personal faves Lollipop Chainsaw and Shadows of the Damned. Gamers take on the role of Shoko Ozora 100 years from now, as she pilots a robot named Kamui throughout future Japan, exploding everything in sight.

Crimson Shroud – an RPG crafted by the legendary Yasumi Matsuno (Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy Tactics) that breathes new life into the table top RPG, where gamers must rely on luck and chance to win battles (soooooo Dungeons and Dragons).

Aero Porter – equal parts puzzle game and airport sim (?), this strange hybrid from Seaman creator Yoot Saito (only he could come up with such a weird combination) sees players sorting color-coded luggage onto conveyor belts while avoiding delays and accidents. Gamers can also design and share their own plane creations with their friends (I would totally create a plane depicting my favorite jet/Decepticon, Starscream).

More information on all 3 games can be found right here. I am definitely gonna check these games out, especially Liberation Maiden from my main man Suda!

PlayWatch: EA Announces SimCity Social And Two Other Playfish Titles Ending

EA announced this morning that three of its Facebook titles will be coming to an end on June 14. The three games in question are The Sims Social, SimCity Social, and Pet Society. All three were developed by Playfish, which EA acquired in November 2009 for $ 275 million cash plus another $ 25 million in equity.

Particularly surprising is the elimination of SimCity Social, which was only first confirmed at E3 2012. From announcement to closure, the title will have lived only a year before fading from Facebook. This news comes just days after EA laid off an undisclosed (though rumored to be significant) number of staff at its Montreal mobile division.

We have reached out to EA for comment on the possible implications for Playfish and for clarification on the reasons for closing three titles from a single studio at once.
