Men would rather play a new game than have sex?!?

I’m starting to like these guys over at www.VoucherCodesPro.co.uk, they ask the tough questions. Back in April these guys put out the results of a survey done to see which console owners were the best at sex (Obviously Xbox 360 was the best) and now they just put out the results of another survey which asked men if they would rather play a new videogame or have sex.

The study polled 1,442 United Kingdom men as part of ongoing research into external influences on relationships. Every person polled has been in a relationship for six months or more.

The initial question asked was ‘Given the choice between playing a newly released videogame or having sex with your partner, which option would you choose?’ which revealed the following responses:

Game – 49%
Sex – 32%
Depends on the game – 19%

The participants were then asked about their partner and what they would think of this situation, posing the question ‘If they were asked, do you think your partner would expect you to have given that answer?’. The results were varied:

No – 30%
Probably not – 25%
Probably – 21%
Yes – 18%
Unsure -6%

A list of anticipated releases were then presented to the participants and they were then asked the age-old question ‘Sex or Game?’. The top five titles where playing the game would be preferred to sex were as follows:

  1. Grand Theft Auto 5                                     Game 71%   Sex 29%
  2. FIFA 14                                                       Game 67%   Sex 33%
  3. Elder Scrolls Online                                     Game 55%   Sex 45%
  4. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist            Game 52%   Sex 48%
  5. The Last Of Us                                            Game 49%   Sex 51%

The more popular the release, the less likely sex is going to happen. It’s science.

“If anything I’m not actually that surprised by the results of our study. Gamers often spend months, if not years, waiting for a release to come out. So on that day, what’s likely to be more important?”, said George Charles of VoucherCodesPro.co.uk.”I sympathise with partners though. It must be hard work having to compete with Rockstar Games or Naughty Dog. Judging by the game trailers, those guys put on quite a show!”

Just like the last survey we covered, this should be taken with a grain of salt. The survey was done in one country and only questioned about 1400 people. If you asked me, I’d say it depends on the game, and there’s nothing really stopping you from playing the new game and having sex in the same day or at the same time if you’re cool like that.

ANNE passes its Kickstarter goal with more than a week to go

ANNE reaches Kickstarter goal with 11 days left

ANNE, the 2D nostalgia-laden platformer from developer Mo, hit its $ 70,000 Kickstarter goal, and from today it still has nine days left to earn more money. In a multilingual thank you update, Mo said words couldn’t express his gratitude, so he created the happy robot image above.

“For sure the money is what will allow me to get the job done, but knowing that there are people like you out there that believe in my game, in me, just this is worth more than money,” Mo said.

The first stretch goal for ANNE is $ 80,000 and it would add Mac and Linux versions of the game to Mo’s development schedule. At $ 90,000, ANNE would have achievements and a Gender Swap mode, and later stretch goals (up to $ 150,000), add Ouya, PSN, Vita and Wii U versions.

ANNE is a combination of ideas from some of Mo’s favorite 16-bit games, including Mega Man, Contra, Gradius and Super Metroid. That last one was a big inspiration, Mo told Joystiq in April.

“I remember at the beginning, you had this amazing ship,” he said. “A crazy sprite landing slowly and then, the next thing you know, you’re just on foot. And I was just, ‘What a tease.’ What if you could actually go in [the ship] and fly? What would that look like, and how fun would that be? So basically, it’s picking up from just questioning myself and just trying to see what, you know, what am I really looking for as a player right now?”

Dead Space 3 sales below EA expectation, pace slower than sequel at retail

Electronic Arts CFO Blake Jorgensen stated during the company’s year-end financial call yesterday that Dead Space 3 and Crysis 3 didn’t meet sales expectations, but avoided providing any sales numbers. We do know EA planned on a strong showing at launch of Dead Space 3, since Dead Space 2‘s launch beat the original game two-to-one, according to the company. Data provided by NPD reveals DS3 didn’t even perform as well as DS2 at retail.

A straight comparison of Dead Space 3 versus Dead Space 2 ‘at the same life stage’ would be difficult, since DS2 launched late in January of ’11 and DS3 came out in early February this year.

Dead Space 3 units sales were only two percent lower than Dead Space 2,” NPD told us, comparing the per day average.

Although the latest sequel’s retail performance didn’t meet the publisher’s forecast, EA emphatically denied in early March that production of Dead Space 4 had been cancelled.

DuckTales Remastered runs on more than nostalgia

In a new weekly column, writer Bob Mackey will alternate between two of his passions: the Japanese RPG genre and classic games. This week Mackey discusses the recently revealed DuckTales revival.

Game designer Warren Spector’s preoccupation with Mickey Mouse ranks up there with some of the more notable wastes of time in recent memory. You can’t say Spector didn’t have his heart in the right place, though; while much of his love for Disney’s mascot seems to be informed largely by his generation’s exposure to the character as more than just a soulless corporate brand, both of Junction Point’s Epic Mickey games carried forth the noble mission of teaching a new generation about Disney’s often-overlooked catalog of animated shorts.

I found myself on board after hearing the premise of Spector’s original Epic Mickey, mostly because Disney held nearly all of their shorts hostage on a premium cable channel during my childhood. If I wanted to soak up knowledge about the studio’s earlier works, why not do it in Spector-engineered video game form?

According to critics and consumers, the experiment didn’t turn out so well. Epic Mickey didn’t aspire to greater heights than “competent N64 platformer,” and gamers regarded the series as such. Tragically enough, Spector had been sitting on a much better – though not necessarily more popular – property while developing Epic Mickey: Disney’s Uncle Scrooge comics, best known to children of the ’80s as the animated adaptation DuckTales.

Spector had written for the newly launched DuckTales comic between Epic Mickey installments, and during a PAX Prime 2012 interview, I managed to sneak in a few questions that confirmed his interest in making a game that starred Disney’s crankiest curmudgeon. His vague, non-committal statements didn’t exactly set the Internet on fire, but they at least gave us all a moment to pause and fantasize about what a modern DuckTales game would look like.

Xi3 blasts back at Valve, says Piston is ‘something more’ than Steam Box

Piston creator Xi3 issued a stark response this morning to Valve publicly distancing itself from the company. In a press release, Xi3 founder, president, and CEO Jason A. Sullivan reaffirmed the investment Xi3 received to build a device “specifically for Valve” earlier this year, before launching into an aggressive counter, stating Xi3′s Piston is perceivably “something more” than Valve’s Steam Box. The Xi3, “contrary to Valve’s vision” according to Sullivan, won’t be limited to supporting particular platforms and game stores.

“We reaffirm the fact that we received an investment from Valve Corporation (as we previously disclosed during the 2013 International CES trade show), and we did so with Valve’s written permission,” Suillvan wrote in today’s statement. “Second, we were asked to build a product specifically for Valve, and both companies showcased this product – the Piston console – in their respective booths at CES 2013.”

Sullivan noted Valve boss Gabe Newell “personally asked” him to not disclose further information on Xi3′s relationship with Valve. While, according to Sullivan, Xi3 continues to honor that arrangement, Newell’s statement clearly caused (or added to) friction between the two companies, with Sullivan going on to state arguments for why the Xi3 is a stronger proposition than the Steam Box.

Rumor: Could Someone Other Than David Hayter Voice Solid Snake?

David Hayter is the gruffy, smoke-addled voice of Solid Snake. At least he has been for the last 15 years. How would you feel if someone else voiced Metal Gear's iconic protagonist?

Hayter, who also helped write screenplays for movies like X-Men and Watchmen, recently tweeted, "Informal Poll: How would you react if I didn't play Snake in the next Metal Gear?"

It's entirely speculative, but could this mean that Hayter hasn't secured the role for Snake in Kojima's next Metal Gear game? Could Kojima be looking for someone other than Hayter to play the lead role in Ground Zeroes? We don't know, and this is entirely speculative, but something seems fishy about Hayter recent poll. According to the actor, 64 percent of people told him that they would be sad or angry if he didn't play Snake. The strangest part of these tweets, to us, is the fact that Hayter included series creator Hideo Kojima and publisher Konami in the tweet, which makes it seem like he wanted them to see how much people love him as Snake.

Splinter Cell hero Sam Fisher recently found a new voice, so this kind of thing isn't totally unheard of. How would you feel if Konami found a new actor to portray Solid Snake?
