War Thunder takes flight on PS4 this holiday

Gaijin Entertainment – not to be confused with Bit.Trip series developer Gaijin Games – is preparing a PS4 version of War Thunder for launch this holiday season. War Thunder is Gaijin’s free-to-play online WWII vehicular combat game, currently in open beta on the PC.

“The power of PS4 will allow developers to include improved head-tracking system, easier socializing tools, smart and easy options to record, stream and share homemade gameplay videos and will have full support of PlayStation Cloud,” the press release past the break confirms. Nothing is mentioned regarding whether this will also be free-to-play on PS4, so we’ve inquired with Gaijin Entertainment for further details.

War Thunder has over 1.5 million players on the PC and Gaijin Entertainment is currently working on a version for mobile devices.

Pokemon X/Y gameplay trailer takes a tour of Lumiose City

This new gameplay trailer brings the Pokemon X and Y info-dump from the latest CoroCoro magazine to life, with the two playable characters, four recently unveiled monsters, and the star-shaped Kalos region taking the limelight. The metropolis shown off above is Lumiose City, the epicenter of the Kalos region.

The four new Pokemon on show are Gogoat, Pancham, Fletchling, and Helioptile – find out more on them here. Also, as CoroCoro recently revealed, the two 3DS games support trainer hair and skin color customization – you know, in case the blonde with red gingham look just isn’t doing it for you.

The Novelist takes ‘ghostwriting’ to a new, emotional level

The Novelist stars three characters: Dan Kaplan, a father attempting to finish writing the most important book of his career; Dan’s wife and their young son – and you won’t play as any of these people. Instead, players control an omniscient presence in the family’s summer cabin, able to watch their daily lives, read their thoughts, enter their memories and influence their actions. The only catch is that the ghost must stay out of sight.

“It’s up to you to decide how Dan’s career and family life will evolve, but choose carefully; there are no easy answers, and every choice has a cost,” The Novelist‘s description reads. “Dan’s relationships – to his work, his wife and his son – react and shift in response to your choices. With a different sequence of events in every playthrough, The Novelist gives life to a unique experience each time you play.

“The decisions you make will define the Kaplans’ lives, but they may also tell you something about yourself.”

The Novelist is the brain child of Kent Hudson, who worked on AAA titles such as BioShock 2, Thief: Deadly Shadows, Deus Ex: Invisible War, The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, and maybe even more games with subtitles. He left the mainstream industry in 2011, and has been working on The Novelist ever since. We hope he wasn’t working all the time, though – all work and no play make Kent a dull boy.

The Novelist is due out on PC and Mac this summer, with pre-orders live now at a 25 percent discount ($ 15) via Hudson’s site, with a Steam Greenlight page ready to roll.

Triple Town devs’ new title takes cues from a famous poem

Road Not Taken is an upcoming puzzle game from Spry Fox, developers on Triple Town and Realm of the Mad God. It also borrows its name from the popular 1916 poem from Robert Frost, “The Road Not Taken” – and it borrows from the poem’s thematic elements as well. …

Road Not Taken Preview – Studio Behind Triple Town Takes On Life And Loss

Spry Fox, the studio behind the game Triple Town have announced their next game. Road Not Taken tackles weighty themes under guise of a roguelike puzzle game.

The title is a reference to Robert Frost's poem "The Road Not Taken." The game's designer says the game explores the expectations that a person faces throughout their lives and the repercussions that occur when alternate paths are chosen. The game is designed to be played repeatedly, and Spry Fox says that in doing so players will begin to understand the larger themes at play. It doesn't take that degree of effort to see that the game is beautifully rendered.

Spry Fox says more details on the game will be coming over the next few weeks. If you haven't yet played Spry Fox's game Triple Town, check it out on iOS or Android. You'll soon understand why the mere presence of those bears makes our eyes twitch.

The Last Of Us TV Spot Does Whatever It Takes To Survive

The Last of Us is just a few days short of being one month away, and Sony and Naughty Dog have released a TV commercial to make sure everyone remembers.

The TV spot features lots of fast cutting and action sequences, which is surprising considering most of what we've seen from the game has been contemplative and slow, but violent when necessary.

The Last of Us is coming exclusively to PlayStation 3 on June 14.

Pacific Rim game tie-in takes one more giant step toward launch

Pacific Rim video game stuff extravaganza

Japanese developer Yuke’s is one step closer to providing the world with a behemoth brawler based on Guillermo del Toro’s coming film Pacific Rim. On Friday, Australia’s Office of Film and Literature Classification rated the game for release, listing moderate impact themes and violence, as well as online play for the tie-in. In March, Yuke’s announced it had acquired the rights to the film [PDF].

Screenshots posted in a NeoGAF thread suggest the title will be a fighting game – a good fit with the film’s premise. Yuke’s also developed a game tie-in for the Hugh Jackman vehicle Real Steel, which launched on the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network to unfavorable reviews.

Platforms for the Pacific Rim title have not been revealed; however, a box shot image on NeoGAF suggests that, like Real Steel, the Pacific Rim game tie-in will launch on digital distribution platforms.

Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim explores the near-future conflict between human-controlled robots and massive monsters hell-bent on waging war on humanity and its memories of Neon Genesis Evangelion. The film arrives on July 12 and looks so awesome.

Bethesda Takes To Twitter For More Teasing

Earlier this morning, Bethesda began teasing yet another new project via Twitter. The image is three tiers featuring what appears to be a glowing red eye, a set of small missiles, and possibly shadows of people.

Unlike their last tease, the series of Vine movies for Shinji Mikami's The Evil Within, this comes with a bit of focus. Bethesda stated outright that this project has nothing to do with Bethesda Game Studios (the team behind The Elder Scrolls and Fallout 3).

The tweet accompanying the picture promises more information this morning via Gamespot, and the first hint has the hashtag "#1960" on a full version of the missile image.

Update: All three images have appeared now (here, here, and here). They are tagged with z1960, y1960, and x1960. Perhaps the final one will be W1960. Wolfenstein 1960?

Collision Physics takes the ice in NHL 14 trailer

EA Canada recently detailed NHL 14‘s Collision Physics in a developer diary video and blog. New to the hockey game this year are left stick hits, where the speed and momentum of skaters can cause big hits without the use of the right joystick. Right stick hitting controls are still accessible in the game.

The Collision Physics system, which borrows from the FIFA series’ Player Impact Engine, introduces more ragdoll reactions to players suffering hits, including the goalie. EA Canada says NHL 14 will also see less hip check spamming and more incidental contact due to the game demanding better player positioning. Likewise, the developer says the system will make better use of a player’s individual attributes for keeping their balance and delivering hits on opponents.
