Super Replay – The Worst Sonic The Hedgehog Ever

When I decided to turn the 12.31 Super Replay into an annual event, I knew the focus needed to be on bad games. People enjoyed watching us suffer; that was the hook that stood out. We used Overblood as the foundation for the type of game we were looking for each year. Blue Stinger, Illbleed, And Martian Gothic were all games that delivered a similar stench. They were perfect selections for the annual Super Replay.

When Tim Turi left Game Informer to work at Capcom, I realized this Super Replay event wouldn't be the same without him. He played through all of these bad games, and, well, I don't think it would have been fair to continue on without him. Out of respect to Tim, we are moving away from the survival-horror angle, and are falling back on my original pitch: it needs to be a bad game period.

As it turns out, there are many different flavors of terrible video games, and I think we found another example in Sonic the Hedgehog that is every bit as enjoyable, campy, and unbearably bad as the original Overblood. The game is simply titled Sonic the Hedgehog, but it's often referred to as Sonic '06. It's developed by Sonic Team for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and is another failed attempt to give the blue speedster new life.

The game is as bad as they come, and it won't take long for you to see why. It's an abomination of platforming and action, and the story also makes it look like two wildly different games were mashed together into one.

New episodes of this Super Replay will hit every Tuesday and Sunday on Game Informer and YouTube. I don't like to blow smoke, but I truly think this is one of our best Super Replays yet, perhaps because it's a new beginning and a different kind of awful. Enjoy!

    Super Replay – Brütal Legend

After unequivocally completing Sonic the Hedgehog recently, we decided that it is definitely time to move onto a different game. We’re not going to play Sonic the Hedgehog ’06 anymore because it is a bad game that we don’t like and we watched the credits, so we don’t know what else you guys want from us.

Despite our pledge to play bad games on this show, for our next Super Replay, we decided to play a game we all enjoy – Double Fine’s Brütal Legend. Released in 2009 after a tumultuous publisher hand-off, Brütal Legend tells the story of Eddie Riggs (voiced by Jack Black) as he explores an open world inspired by heavy metal culture. It’s a hilarious rock ‘n roll adventure and we’re excited to definitely play through the whole thing start to finish, and never ever play Sonic the Hedgehog ’06 ever again.

Celebrate The Launch Of Fire Emblem Heroes With Free Super Mario Run Coins

As Nintendo ramps up its mobile efforts, it's learning how to get players to hop among its multiple games on phones.

Case in point: the launch of Fire Emblem Heroes is cause for celebration in Super Mario Run, where players who log in now will receive 2,222 coins (coinciding with the game's launch date of February 2, or 2/2). You don't have to download Fire Emblem Heroes or have paid the $ 10 it takes to unlock all of Super Mario Run's courses, either – all of you have to do is log in.

            Our Take
But when can I take Mario and friends into the historic battlefields of Fire Emblem Heroes to sacrifice their lives for my kingdom?

Optimus Prime Battles Bumblebee In New Transformers Super Bowl Spot

Paramount pictures released a version of Transformers: The Last Knight's Super Bowl spot, ahead of it's Sunday release. The trailer, while only 32 seconds long, sets the stage adequately for what looks to be the darkest film in the franchise yet. It also shows Bumblebee laying the smackdown on Optimus Prime, and features Anthony Hopkins laying down some gravitas. You can take a look at all the robotic ridiculousness below.

Nintendo’s Super Bowl Ad Has About 1-Second Of New Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Footage

Nintendo produced a Super Bowl ad for the first time in the company's history, and while it is severely underwhelming it does have a full second of new Zelda: Breath of the Wild footage.

In the very, very short clip (seen in gif form below) Link is shown brandishing his sword in front of Zelda and another character who is taking a nap. Link appears to be protecting both Zelda and the napping character dressed in red, but it's difficult to ascertain much else from the very brief clip.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild launches March 3 on Wii U and Switch, which also releases March 3.
