GamersGate offering Bethesda’s best for cheap this weekend

GamersGate offering Bethesda's best for cheap this weekend

GamersGate is hosting a big sale on Bethesda titles this weekend, featuring games from the last few years of the company’s history on sale for a fraction of the usual price. Dishonored, for example, is available for a low $ 14.99, or you can get Skyrim for $ 14.95, Rage for $ 9.95, or Fallout: New Vegas‘ Ultimate Edition for $ 9.95. Brink, Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Morrowind are all listed at bargain prices as well.

A few of the titles have dropped out of stock already, which means that GamersGate has run out of digital keys for them. But as long as the title is still available for purchase, you can buy it, and then GamersGate will deliver a key when more are available. The deals last through the weekend, so now’s your chance to fill out that Bethesda back catalog you’ve been missing.

Rumor: Nintendo offering Wii U conversion software to smartphone app devs

Nintendo reportedly wants to expand the Wii U’s library by actively helping smartphone developers to adapt their apps for the system. According to “company sources” at The Japan Times, Nintendo “has offered professional-use conversion software” to app devs in the hope smartphone software will help boost the Wii U’s underwhelming sales figures.

The report tallies with Nintendo’s increased affinity for the downloadable games market; the company’s digital sales figures for the last fiscal year more than doubled the previous year’s. In a recent Q & A session, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said the new strategy isn’t limited to selling packaged games digitally.

“We will not simply change our existing packaged software distribution channel,” Iwata said. “Rather, we might have many other types of business models in addition to packaged software. For example, we might see more games that are similar to free-to-play games, games that cost much less or games that require a monthly subscription fee.

“Digitalization allows for greater flexibility, whereby having more ways to make payments, both software developers and consumers have more options. And Nintendo 3DS and Wii U have flexible systems to handle such trends, so it is now a question of putting these ideas into action. I can definitely say that Nintendo will make new offers that go well beyond simply replacing packaged software with digital software.”

EA Offering SimCity Players One Of Eight Free Games

EA said it was offering free games to players as an apology for SimCity's botched launch, and now they've revealed the selection – which includes SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition.

If you've activated SimCity, you should be getting an email from EA that offers instructions on how to claim your additional game. If you picked up the game but haven't yet registered it, you'll need to do so before end of day March 25.

Here's a list of the games you can pick from.

  • Battlefield 3 (Standard Edition)
  • Bejeweled 3
  • Dead Space 3 (Standard Edition)
  • Mass Effect 3 (Standard Edition)
  • Medal of Honor Warfighter (Standard Edition)
  • Need For Speed Most Wanted (Standard Edition)
  • Plants vs. Zombies
  • SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition

SimCity's launch was plagued with server issues, which prevented users from logging on to the game – a large problem considering the game's always-online requirement. Some enterprising users have found workarounds in the meantime, but that didn't help players hoping to enjoy the game on launch day.

EA Working Hard On SimCity, Offering Free Game For Your Troubles

Electronic Arts and Maxis have been having some trouble with SimCity. More players than expected are playing the game, servers are getting overloaded, and people can't log on to play. In response, EA is offering free games, and doing what they can to get the game up and running.

In an update on EA's blog, Lucy Bradshaw, general manager for the Maxis label, outlined some of the fixes EA is currently pursuing. And in an attempt to regain some goodwill, EA is offering a free game to SimCity players. On March 18, e-mails will be sent out to players who have activated SimCity with instructions on how to get their free downloadable game. It sounds like players will be able to choose from just about anything in EA's library.

As far as fixing SimCity, Bradshaw says that server capacity has increased by 120%, and disrupted experiences have dropped by 80%. It's still not the fully functional game it should be, but EA is working on it.

Trion offering a Defiance season pass with DLC, new species, and more

Trion has posted details on a season pass for Defiance, its MMO-meets-a-TV-show project in conjunction with SyFy. The season pass will cost players $ 39.99 and enable access to the game’s first five DLC packs, which will include a new playable alien species, along with lots of new weapons, vehicles, missions, and other rewards. Plus, pass buyers get two bonus items: a digital Hellbug combat cap, and an extra Lock Box (which is a sealed container in the game for a chance at another item).

The $ 39.99 is in addition to the game’s initial purchase price ($ 59.99, or $ 99.99 for the deluxe edition). Defiance won’t have a subscription fee, and this price is 20 percent off what the DLC will cost in total.

The Defiance game will be launched on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on April 2, while the TV show will start on April 15.
