Legend of Grimrock 2

Legend of Grimrock 2 launched fairly quietly about a week ago. The sequel to the successful 2012 dungeon crawler, Grimrock 2 seems to improve and expand on nearly every aspect of the first game without sacrificing any of the classic exploration, combat, and puzzle solving that defined it. Probably the biggest change is the inclusion of expansive outdoor environments – whereas Grimrock 1 took place entirely underground inside dark dungeons and caverns, Grimrock 2 let’s you explore the surface of the Isle of Nex, traversing opulent beaches, forests, and other outdoor locales. Monster AI is also noticeably improved, and though the combat retains the “dance-like” quality of Grimrock 1, it’s not as easy to lead opponents around the same four tiles without getting hit. Monsters are more likely to anticipate and dodge your attacks, and are less inclined to walk into the range of your weapons. New races, new classes, an upgraded skills system, and a friendlier UI round out a list of improvements that should please fans who were satisfied with the original.

Legend of Grimrock gets unofficial ‘Master Quest’ add-on

Legend of Grimrock gets unofficial 'Master Quest' addon

Fans waiting for the Legend of Grimrock sequel now have a new quest to pass the time. Legend of Grimrock forums user Benjamin Ramsey recently made an unofficial add-on for the original game available on Steam Workshop.

Called the Legend of Grimrock – Master Quest, the mod is a “complete re-working of the entire original game with tons of new puzzles, updated dungeon designs, unique story elements, and more.” The add-on also gives a “loot value” to every item, which influences each player’s new treasure hunter ranking.

Almost Human Announces Legend Of Grimrock II

In a blog post on the official Legend of Grimrock website, Almost Human says the project its been discussing in previous posts has finally been designated Legend of Grimrock II.

“We still have a lot of ideas we’d like to explore, lots and lots of new content already done (originally made for a DLC/expansion) and a big engine update in the works,” writes Almost Human. “DLC would have limited too much [of] what we can do."

Legend of Grimrock released last April, and was praised for its old-school gameplay and puzzles. You can follow the progress on the sequel on Almost Human’s Legend of Grimrock blog

Almost Human announces Legend of Grimrock II

Indie-development team Almost Human has finally announced that they are working on Legend of Grimrock 2.

In an official blog post, the small development team said that fans of the original deserved more than just DLC expansions. They’ve instead introduced a major  update to the game’s engine, and have added a ton of new content in preparation for the development of a brand new title!

Legend of Grimrock, released in April of 2012, was praised by critics for its nostalgia-inducing gameplay elements, reminiscent of old-school dungeon-crawling RPG titles such as Eye of the Beholder. If history any indicator, it looks like the sequel will be just as good, if not better, than the original.

No further details have been released, but we’ll keep you posted on the latest news from Almost Human.

Legend of Grimrock 2 is official

Legend of Grimrock 2

Remember the project that Legend of Grimrock developer Almost Human teased last month? It turns out that the project is indeed Legend of Grimrock 2, although that wasn’t originally the plan. The developer has already created a great deal of new content, wrote Petri Häkkinen on the Almost Human blog, and it was originally intended for an expansion.

“We still have a lot of ideas we’d like to explore, lots and lots of new content already done (originally made for a DLC/expansion) and a big engine update in the works,” he said, adding that approaching the next project as DLC “would have limited too much what we can do.”

The announcement is light on details, though we can assume another retro-inspired dungeon crawl is in the works.
