Aliens: Colonial Marines patch fixes a lot of things, even the flamethrower

Aliens Colonial Marines gets huge 38GB patch on PC

Clean up on aisle Aliens: Colonial Marines – Sega launched a patch to address a few of the issues in Colonial Marines, including various visual improvements, improved texture resolution, audio fixes, increased enemy and friendly AI responsiveness, modified enemy collision detection and NPC navigation, fixed spawning issues, removal of the ability to walk outside of maps, and many more, listed in full below.

Our favorite from this extensive list has to be, “Addressed an issue where Ripley’s Flamethrower (bonus content) would sometimes fire continuously without player input.” The update should automatically install on Steam, so unfortunately there’s no way to keep that particular glitch (feature?) in your game.

When Colonial Marines launched in February, we found it to be a broken, unfinished mess, and most others agreed. Since it hit stores, developers Gearbox, TimeGate and publisher Sega have yet to agree where the blame lies. TimeGate let go 25 people in early March.

Even More New Modes Coming To Resident Evil 6

If you're picking up Resident Evil 6 on PC, you will receive a mode that is unavailable to console players. Called "The Mercenaries: No Mercy," this exclusive mode is similar to the familiar Mercenaries mode, but Capcom claims it presents a greater challenge and allows for even more on-screen enemies.

In addition to No Mercy, another new mode called Siege is coming to all platforms (As if the three new modes already released weren't enough).

Capcom confirmed today that Siege is a multiplayer mode for up to six players. It has players splitting into two teams – one controls the main characters as they attempt to save a BSAA rookie agent, and the other controls the creatures trying to kill said agent. After the first round, the teams swap roles to play from the other perspective. Players will be able to purchase Sieg in March for $ 4.

Check out the video of Siege mode in action, plus see the latest PC screenshots below.

Rubin: Vigil’s new IP meant ‘even more risk’ for potential buyers

Despite many of its major brands and studios being snatched up during this week’s auction, several of THQ’s intellectual properties remain unclaimed, their respective studios dissolving as a result. Among those unclaimed properties is the Darksiders franchise, which failed to garner any bids during the auction proceedings.

“Having just finished a product, Vigil was farthest from release of their next game,” THQ CEO Jason Rubin told Game Informer. “We were not able to garner any interest from buyers, despite a herculean effort. Additionally, they were working on a new IP, which meant even more risk for a buyer.”

Vigil’s new IP, codenamed Crawler, was a show-stopper by all internal accounts: “When the teams got together recently to show each other their titles, Crawler dropped the most jaws,” Rubin said. “It is a fantastic idea, and truly unique. The fact that nobody bid for the team and title is a travesty. It makes no sense to me.”

Darksiders will be sold (along with THQ’s other remaining properties) in the coming weeks, though what that process entails remains unknown.

Even this Dark Souls 2 concept art is difficult

Even this Dark Souls 2 concept art is difficult

Fans of From Software’s Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls games sure like a challenge. While Dark Souls 2 will be “more understandable,” we’re expecting that it will retain the difficulty curve set by the previous games.

Since we really don’t know what to make of the recent pieces of concept art for Dark Souls 2 seen in the gallery below, we figure it’s just another way the series is beating our brains up.

I'm glad I live in a world where a woman who can make those
noises come out of her larynx can make a living doing so. That's just awesome.

Even a new console launch couldn’t stop November’s steep decline

There may have been a brand new home console on American store shelves, but that wasn’t enough to stop yet another month of decline for the retail video game industry in the ever-important November shopping month. …

Mutant Mudds plops onto Wii U in Q1 2013, is ‘even more unique’

Mutant Mudds on Wii U has a launch plan for Q1 2013, bringing unique content to the console, Renegade Kid co-founder Jools Watsham tweets.

“Well, it’s going to have even more unique content for a start! And, out Q1 2013,” he says.

Watsham outed something called Mutant Mudds Deluxe on Wii U in September, giving us a single screenshot and nothing else, the tease. Mutant Mudds is already available for the 3DS eShop and PC, with an iOS version due this week. This could be one to look out for after getting a Wii U “for your family” (it’s for you; don’t lie) for the holidays, since we found the 3DS version to be worthwhile and “really frustratingly/enjoyably hard in the Mega Man tradition.”

Not even November can save U.S. game retail now

Last week the NPD Group released its latest estimates for the retail video game market in the United States, and for yet another month both hardware and software sales were down. For those who watch the market, this came as practically no surprise, but it was still disappointing. In the 44 months since February 2009, when this long term contraction began, the retail software market has shown year-over-year growth in only seven of them. The …

Sometimes, paper is your best prototyping tool – even if you’re Nintendo

Oh, it’s made out of cardboard! (laughs)- Nintendo president Satoru Iwata marvels at the simplicity of an early prototype of the Wii U’s tablet controller (pictured above). Nintendo is banking on its Miiverse — a sort of mini-Facebook with a layer of console game makeup — to draw players to its new Wii U console. It was a new concept, running on a new type of game hardware with the tablet-like GamePad. Nintendo contracted fellow …
