Crysis 3 multiplayer DLC emerges via achievements listing

A new achievements listing suggests Crysis 3 is suiting up for multiplayer DLC. Posted on the typically reliable Xbox 360 Achievements, the listing indicates a 250G pack featuring four maps called Creek, Crossing, Ascent, and Coastline, and two modes called Frenzy and Team Possession. The mention of a flag points to Team Possession being a CTF variant.

The DLC apparently also has a new weapon: the boat oar. We mainly wanted to mention it because the associated achievement is called ‘Totally Oarsome.’

EA hasn’t announced any upcoming DLC for Crysis 3, although developer Crytek previously indicated it had “big plans” for post-launch content. We’ve reached out to EA for more info.

Hunt down Crysis 3 for $40 at Amazon

Amazon is selling Crytek’s jungle-bound shooter, Crysis 3, for $ 40 on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. This only applies to physical copies of the game, meaning the PC download version is still oddly at $ 60.

We highlighted the importance of patience in our review of Crysis 3, so if you followed that tenet so closely that you waited to even buy the game, this sale may feel like a reward.

‘Crysis 3 on Wii U had to die’

Crysis 3 keeps its cool to top UK charts for second week

Crysis 3 is the first 2013 release to hold top spot in the UK charts. Despite a 43 percent dip in sales this week, Crytek’s sci-fi shooter leads the pack again. As for last week’s runner-up, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance drops a place to No 3 after a 60 percent fall in sales, while soccer stalwart FIFA 13 nudges ahead of it into second place.

With no major new releases, this week’s charts paint a familiar, almost serene picture. Aliens: Colonial Marines and Dead Space 3 only suffer slight drops to make it three and four weeks respectively in the top ten, while lower down the charts Ni no Kuni shows it’s still got life in its JRPG veins by returning to the top 40 in 25th spot.

Yerli: Crysis 3 was up and running on Wii U, was ‘very close to launching’

Yerli Crysis 3 was up and running on Wii U, was 'very close to launching'

Crysis 3 rode the Wii U teeter-totter throughout 2012, with Crytek executives hinting at the possibility of development for Nintendo’s console, maybe, until CEO Cevat Yerli put all the rumors to bed in January. At the time, Yerli said Nintendo and EA talked it over but couldn’t work out a deal.

Turns out that while Nintendo and EA talked shop, Crytek was doing more than twiddling its thumbs – it had Crysis 3 almost ready to lauch on the Wii U.

“We did have Crysis 3 running on the Wii U,” Yerli tells Venture Beat. “We were very close to launching it. But there was a lack of business support between Nintendo and EA on that. Since we as a company couldn’t launch on the Wii U ourselves – we don’t have a publishing license – Crysis 3 on Wii U had to die.”

We’d like to think its death was quick and painless, but one year of touch-and-go doesn’t sound like either of those things.

Crysis 3 Almost Came To Wii U

According to Crytek's founder, CEO, and president, Cevat Yerli, Crysis 3 was up and running on the Wii U, but a lack of support from Nintendo and Electronic Arts meant it was never going to make it to retail.

In an interview with VentureBeat about Warface, Crytek's free to play shooter, Yerli said, "We did have Crysis 3 running on the Wii U. We were very close to launching it, but there was a lack of business support between Nintendo and EA on that. Since we as a company couldn’t launch on the Wii U ourselves — we don’t have a publishing license — Crysis 3 on Wii U had to die."

On one hand, this shows that Wii U is struggling to attract third-party support, but on the other hand, it shows that technologically, the Wii U is keeping up with its current competition.

Super Joystiq Podcast Live 040: Tomb Raider, Crysis 3, Revengeance [Watch the replay!]

Update: The live show is over, but you can watch the replay above. And wake up earlier, next time!

The color for today’s live episode of the Super Joystiq Podcast is “gunmetal gray.” No one on the live show knows this, so they’re probably wearing shirts in red, green and other garishly inappropriate colors, but with the games we’re discussing today, they really should have known better.

This week, we’re talking about the slick silver stylings of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, the glossy metallic glare of Crysis 3 and Tomb Raider‘s subdued, twilight sheen. Truthfully, there probably won’t be much discussion about actual colors during the show, but there is an undeniable trend here.

GI Show 146: Crysis 3, Metal Gear Revengeance, Microtransactions

In this week's GI podcast, we catch up with Crysis 3 and the
latest Metal Gear game, plus delve into the debate surrounding microtransactions
in games.

Due to the big Sony PS4 announcement last week, we cut
Crysis 3 from the show. But that doesn't mean the game isn't worth discussing.
Crytek always delivers big-budget, graphically advanced thrills and, while this
game doesn't exactly break new ground, it's a satisfying shooter experience from
a studio that knows what it's doing. Host Matt Helgeson is joined by reviewer
Matt Bertz and Andy Reiner, who break down the game in detail – and talk about
why the PC version might be a glimpse of how games will look on next-gen
consoles.

Next up is Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, the collaboration
between Kojima Productions and the stylish action masters Platinum Games. It's
not your typical Metal Gear game, and it's new focus on action and lack of
storytelling gives reviewer Joe Juba, Ben Hanson, and Andy Reiner much to
discuss.

Finally, Matt and Joe are joined by GI PC editor Adam
Biessener to talk about the recent controversy over EA's decision to include
microtransactions in all their upcoming games. However, it turns into a more
broad discussion about consumer rights and the right and wrong ways to do
microtransactions.
