EA Backpedals, Games In Development For ‘The Nintendo Console’

Wii U owners might be catching a break. EA chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen made a presentation at the Stifel Nicolaus Internet, Media, & Communications Conference yesterday, offering new information on the publisher's plans for the Wii U.

Last week, EA stated definitively that it has no games in development for Nintendo's home console. Yesterday, Jorgensen gave a different take, stating, "We are building titles for the Nintendo console, but not anywhere near as many as we are for PS or Xbox."

EA previously stated it was having trouble getting Frostbite running on the Wii U. We also know that FIFA and Madden will be skipping that platform this fall. Without Frostbite, the underpinning of EA studios' next generation development, it's unlikely we'll see marquee titles on the Wii U.

Microsoft: ‘Only Xbox One controllers, accessories will work with the new console.’

Xbox One doesn't support 360 controllers, Kinect, maybe other accessories

Microsoft confirmed to Joystiq only Xbox One controllers and accessories are supported by the new console. The new system won’t support the Xbox 360 controller or Xbox 360 Kinect. When approached, a Microsoft spokesperson provided us with the following statement:

“Xbox One was designed from the ground up with entirely new technology to deliver a new generation of experiences for both games and entertainment For example, the Wireless Controller will connect to the console using high speed data transfer to enable higher fidelity headset audio and future controller add-on experiences that are not possible with Xbox 360 wireless technology. Additionally, the all-new Kinect sensor’s ability to locate the wireless controller is dependent on new technology. In order for Xbox One to deliver robust, meaningful gaming scenarios for all users across all experiences, only Xbox One controllers and accessories will work with the new console.”

Microsoft previously confirmed to Polygon and Engadget the Xbox One won’t support the Xbox 360 controller or Xbox 360 Kinect respectively. Neither is surprising, given Microsoft’s new system has a redesigned controller and a next-gen edition of the Kinect sensor.

However, while it isn’t explicitly said, Microsoft’s statement seems to indicate the Xbox One won’t support any Xbox 360 accessories. When asked on Twitter if the new system supports Xbox 360 headsets, Xbox Support reiterated the statement we received, saying, “Only Xbox One accessories will work with Xbox One, which helps us deliver better headset audio and other benefits.”

PSA: Super Metroid Only 30 Cents On Wii U Virtual Console

The Wii U's virtual console offerings might be very slim at the moment, but that doesn't mean there aren't some gems available. Starting today, Super Metroid has been given a significant price drop.

Samus Aran's Super Nintendo adventure can be yours for only $ .30. Why such an odd price? The promotions, which have been running since January, are in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the original Famicom.

It's hard to say no to such a great game at an affordable price. If you've never played Super Metroid and want to understand our enthusiasm, you can always see it in action in a recent episode of Super Replay.

Rumor: ‘PS4 E3′ video shows the console in the eyes of the beholder

This could be the first glimpse of Sony’s PlayStation 4 console and a look at the next generation of designer contact lens trends. This video contains the correct amount of blaring electronica for an E3 presentation, but we’ve reached out to Sony to clarify if it is, in fact, legitimate.

Sony announced the PS4 in February, but has yet to show off the console itself. Microsoft, Sony’s next-gen competitor, is preparing to reveal its new Xbox on May 21.

Bidder Offers $15,500 For Sega Pluto Console, Seller Turns It Down

Shortly after a former Sega employee posted photos of what basically amounted to a prototyped Sega Saturn with online capabilities codenamed the Pluto, the console appeared on eBay for sale.

The original online appearance of the console on AssemblerGames came with the quote that this was probably one of only two Pluto consoles. When the presumed only other Pluto appeared on eBay, as well as the auction site GameGavel by the same poster, the auction went up to $ 7,600 for the latter. It did not not meet the reserve, however, so it remained unsold. Meanwhile, the eBay listing received 89 bids and made it up to $ 15,500, and still did not meet the reserve.

Whoever this seller is, twitter user @Kidvid666, they are going for the whole enchilada, or the whole echidna, perhaps? Like Knuckles from Sonic the Hedgehog? I'm really good at puns.
