Civilization VI Sale, Demo Now Available

Players who are unsure of whether or not to take a dive into Game Informer's 2016 Strategy Game of the Year can now test the game for themselves to see if Civilization VI's addictive 4X gameplay is right for them.

Firaxis has released a demo for the game (currently available on the game's Steam store page) gives players access to the full game's comprehensive tutorial and allows access to China (under the rule of Qin Shi Huang) for 60 turns.

To further sweeten the pot, Steam is hosting a sale on the works of publisher 2K Games. Civilzation VI is currently $ 47.99, off 20 percent from its usual $ 59.99 asking price. Fellow 2K games Mafia III, XCOM 2, NBA 2K17 and much more are also on sale. To see all the deals on offer, check out the Steam sale page. The sale will last until 10:00 AM PT on March 10.

PSA: Nier Automata Is Available On PC Starting Today

Nier Automata hit PS4 a few weeks ago. The game is now available on PC.

Our reviewer, Joe Juba, found it a bit rough in places but also filled with interesting moments.

Some parts of Nier: Automata genuinely thrilled and surprised me, but it is a constant exercise in sacrifice. Combat has improved compared to the original Nier, but it still isn’t fully engaging. The progression system has cool ideas, but doesn’t offer enough depth. The premise is fascinating, but it is dulled by repetition. Ultimately, tapping into the sad and unique story that flows under the surface of Nier: Automata makes these trade-offs worthwhile, but I’m disappointed by how deeply it’s buried.

Dead Rising 4 Is Now Available On Steam

Dead Rising 4 was one of the last major video game releases of 2016 and today, three months after its initial release, the game is now available on Steam.

The game's original release was December 6, and like most recent Xbox One games, it was also made available that day for Windows 10 PCs. Now, you can grab it for a more universal platform.

For our review of Dead Rising 4 (the Xbox One version) head here.

Our Take
I know Jeff Cork liked this game a lot, and it got swept up in the end-of-year sprint to play as many of the year's games as possible. Hopefully it will get some more play now.

Bomberman 64 Available Now On Wii U Virtual Console

Bomberman 64 will be hitting the Wii U Virtual Console today, possibly in an effort to console Bomberman fans disappointed with the recent release of Super Bomberman R. Sporting a full 24-level  campaign, Bomberman 64 sees players aiding Bomberman in a quest to defend Planet Bomber from the villainous Altair, who is seeking to drain the planets energy using the Omni-Cube. Players can also engage up to four friends in a local multiplayer Battle mode.

We didn't exactly resonate with the recent release of Super Bomberman R for the Ninendo Switch, writing, "It's a better multiplayer game than a single-player game, but it's not a particularly good multiplayer game either." You can read our full review here

Nintendo Virtual Console Games Not Available At Switch Launch

Nintendo has announced a few details about the eShop in relation to the launch of the Switch on March 3.

The company says that Virtual Console titles won't be available at the system's launch and that more info on them is coming "in the future."

At launch, however, players will be able to access funds in Nintendo accounts on other devices. This is done by linking their Nintendo Network ID and Nintendo account, and then that account to the Switch. Recently there was a report that already purchased games could be re-downloaded to the Switch, but Nintendo hasn't specified this yet.

To access the eShop on the Switch will require a system update which Nintendo says, "downloads in the background, is designed to install quickly and doesn't disrupt gameplay."

Our Take
It's too bad the Switch's online functionality won't be 100 percent at launch, but given the fact that Zelda and other titles will be there, not having Virtual Console titles in the short term shouldn't be a big deal.
