Nintendo announced this evening that Animal Crossing: New Leaf has sold over 505,000 copies between physical and digital versions in June.
Nintendo says over 20 percent of sales (around 101,000 downloads) went through the Nintendo eShop, which it claims is the second-highest ratio of digital delivery “behind only Fire Emblem Awakening.”
The company says, “Nintendo’s internal trackers show that sales of the game continue to be strong in July as well, indicating that Animal Crossing: New Leaf is poised to be one of the biggest games of the summer.”
The Tom Nook debt crisis, in other words, is nowhere near being abated.
Ubisoft’s standalone and neon-loving throwback, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, has surpassed 500,000 total units sold on XBLA, PSN and PC, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot told GamesIndustry International. While Guillemot neglected to break down how Blood Dragon‘s sales were spread by platform, he did specifically call out boosted Far Cry 3 sales on PC as a result of Blood Dragon‘s favorable reception.
Blood Dragon‘s critical and commercial success as a companion product is something that Ubisoft will investigate, Guillemot said, so it’s possible that Ubisoft may try and use this formula again in the future. Watch Dogs: Pound Puppies, yes?
Project Awakened, the attempt to reinvigorate Phosphor Games’ beleaguered superhero action game, fell short of its Kickstarter goal today, raising $ 338,498 of a requested $ 500,000. On Monday, with less than two days to raise more than $ 200,000, Phosphor Director Chip Sineni told us that if Awakened missed its Kickstarter goal, his team would continue to develop the game in its own time.
“If nothing else comes up for funding elsewhere – we will keep looking,” Sineni said. “We would not be able to promise a 2014 beta, and it would likely take a long time to complete.”
At the one-day countdown, Phosphor put together a
Heineken ad Hello Kitty piano recital video featuring the team drunkenly singing Tom Waits’ “Innocent When You Dream.” If that can’t make a Kickstarter succeed, we just don’t know what will.
Newsbrief: Social game developer Supercell is the latest studio to see huge revenues from its mobile endeavors, as the company has stated that it is currently grossing over $ 500,000 a day from two releases. The Helsinki, Finland-based studio, which earlier this year adopted a “tablet-first” mobile strategy, told the New York Times that it earns $ 350,000 a day in revenue after Apple has taken its 30 percent cut from sales of Hay Day and Clash …
“Congratulations everyone, with your support through tough times, mistakes, troubles, and technical problems, we now have over 500k users,” the tweet revealed. The ‘Alpha Version’ of DayZ, which requires Arma 2 and its standalone expansion Operation Arrowhead, was released in April 2012.
Speaking earlier this week at the indie-focused event, Rezzed, mod creator Dean Hall said his free mod will soon eclipse sales of Arma 2 at the rate it’s being downloaded.
“Currently we’re running 22,000 concurrent at full peak, and 10,000 off peak, which is pretty huge numbers considering the original data structure and system was designed to handle 100 concurrents, and two servers,” Hall said during his talk, according to Eurogamer.
Hall, who works for Arma developer Bohemia Interactive, revealed that an estimated 400,000 users had experienced the mod by Friday, July 7, and noted an average of about 10,000 new users were jumping into the fray each day.
