Arms is not your typical boxing league. Fighters sport spring-loaded limbs that allow them to punch opponents from across the ring, special gloves let them set each other on fire, and one of the challengers is a mummy. With its newly-introduced quirky characters and a diverse arsenal of weapons, Nintendo's upcoming 3D fighting game puts a new spin on motion-controlled brawling.

The cast of Arms brims with colorful personality in the new character trailer below. Comprised of a springy everyman, peppy popstar, brooding ninja, undead menace, and mechanical genius, everyone brings their own unique fighting style to the ring. Whether it's Ribbon Girl's aerial acrobatics or Ninjara's smoke bomb teleportation, all the boxers have something that gives them an edge over their competitors.

Combined with these individual powers are six specialized gloves boasting different effects. The Toaster weapon lights opponents on fire and deals continuous damage, while Sparky temporarily stuns them with electricity. Players can mix and match powers by wearing different glove types on their left and right hands. This adds a layer of experimentation to the combat as fighters test combinations like the Slapamander and Megaton or Boomerang and Revolver.

Goat Simulator Waste Of Space DLC Coming To PS4 Tomorrow

Goat Simulator – love it or hate it – is one of the quirkiest goat simulation games on the market today. The expansion, Waste of Space, came out on PC, Linux, and Mac in May of last year, but the add-on is finally making the jump to PlayStation 4.

The DLC is a parody of all things space, from Star Wars to Star Trek and everything in between. A recent PlayStation Blog post references romance options, so it may or may not be a coincidence that the PS4 release of this add-on coincides with the release of Mass Effect: Andromeda. Check out the trailer for this endearingly absurd expansion to the Goat Simulator universe:

The Evolution Of Chloe’s Design For Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

It’s been a while since we’ve seen seen the headstrong Chloe Frazer in action. The last time we saw her was in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, which launched over five years ago. Since then a lot has changed in Chloe’s life. She’s moved up in the treasure-hunting business, taking on bigger jobs with higher risks. In the standalone expansion, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, she tackles her biggest project yet, searching India for the highly valuable Tusk of Ganesh. Naughty Dog had to reimagine Chloe for The Lost Legacy just like they did with Nathan Drake in Uncharted 4, taking into account the passage of time and showing the maturity of the character. While we visited Naughty Dog for our recent cover story, the artists and animators spoke to us about what went into Chloe’s redesign. 

For Uncharted 4, Naughty Dog’s graphics engine took the biggest overhaul, making everything look more realistic than before. The team was tasked with bringing Chloe’s design up to the standard of what was set with Uncharted 4. She was finally the lead, requiring more attention devoted to her than ever before. Since Chloe is a legacy character, who fans already have an attachment to, the design team felt extra pressure to get her just right. Chloe had to age, but she also needed to remain familiar to fans. As such, she has her iconic ponytail, but also minor signs of aging, such as crow’s feet.

“This is a character that everyone fell in love with in Uncharted 2,” says concept artist Richard Lyons. “[We asked], ‘How do we keep all those elements familiar, but bring it into a space which is more suitable for where we want our games to be?’ And we were terrified that no one was going to recognize her at the PSX demo. We were looking at so many different things, such as facial features and getting the ponytail right…even where the part [in her hair] was.” Thankfully, the audience recognized Chloe and cheered when they saw her entire face. According to Lyons, fans came up to the team afterward, saying her smokey eye makeup was a dead giveaway. 

Chloe still dresses similarly, wearing jeans and earth colors, but one thing she’s abandoned is her crop top. “We’re just trying to basically marry that relationship of Uncharted 2, which everyone goes back to, but it’s more in materials, colors, and thematic kind of traits rather than, ‘Does she have to have a crop top?’” Lyons says. The team all agreed in the eight years since Uncharted 2, Chloe’s fashion sense would have changed a bit. “You try to put yourself in her mind and think, ‘What would she be wearing now?,” Lyons says. The team made sure to keep certain standbys, right down to her pistol preference and the amount of jewelry she wears. 

In addition to up-resing the character model, all the tech upgrades from Uncharted 4 needed to be applied to Chloe, including minute details such as how sweat and dirt look on her. Animations for Chloe also had to be considered; she wouldn’t move like Nathan Drake. Chloe is shorter than Drake, so she doesn’t have the reach he does, but she also has a more elegant climbing style. Similarly, her melee combat skills are more graceful than Drake, who spent most of his time throwing haymakers. Chloe is not trained in martial arts, but because of her slight frame, she uses her knees, legs, and momentum to take down foes. 

Chloe’s appearance has certainly evolved, but so has her story in The Lost Legacy. This is Naughty Dog’s first chance to really dive into her backstory and explore why Chloe is a self-preservationist. The soul-searching journey should bring us into new territory with the character when it launches later this year on PlayStation 4.

Game Informer staffers are streaming Mass Effect: Andromeda for six hours, starting tomorrow at 11 a.m CT, and running through 6 p.m. Since we already showed off the opening moments of Ryder's journey into the Andromeda galaxy, we're showing off different content in this live stream, including a look at new planets, different companions, as well as a deep dive into multiplayer. Joe Juba, who just released his review for Mass Effect: Andromeda will be on the entire stream, guiding us through this massive RPG.

Red Dead Redemption’s Map Has Been Modded Into Grand Theft Auto V

 

As reported on NeoGAF, a modding team that goes by Team White has brought the Xbox 360 version of Red Dead Redemption's map to Grand Theft Auto V on PC. Tentatively titled "Red Dead Redemption V", the mod has taken just over two years to get to this point. 

Team White says that players should expect a teaser trailer soon, with a beta coming sometime this summer. They also put out a brief FAQ, as wells as some pretty impressive screenshots, both of which you can take a look at here.

The most interesting thing mentioned in the FAQ pertains to what exactly the mod is. While it is not a full port of Red Dead Redemption to the PC, Team White does mention that the full map will feature "additional content" in the future. It remains to be seen what this additional content entails, whether it be from Red Dead Redemption's single player, multiplayer, or possibly original content. Either way, the mod is an impressive feat.

In other Grand Theft Auto V news, the game's multiplayer suite is still pumping out content with a new series of racing tracks, and a double XP event going through March 22. You can read more about it here.

Pokémon Developer Game Freak Working On New Entry In “Globally Popular” RPG Series

Game Freak, developers of the Pokémon series since its inception in the 1990s, are hard at work on a new secret project for "console." Nothing has been officially announced, but the buzz is that it could be a new Pokémon game for Nintendo Switch, or possibly a port of Pokémon: Sun and Moon or another legacy title for Nintendo's portable/home console hybrid.

A new job listing on Indeed Japan is adding fuel to the speculative fire; the company is looking to hire people who can create character models on machines comparable to Wii U and PlayStation Vita for a new entry in an RPG series which is "popular on a global scale." No Pokémon title has been announced for Nintendo Switch, but if this job listing pans out the way we think it could, then perhaps an announcement is just around the corner.

The most recent mainline Pokémon title, Sun and Moon, released in 2016 to critical acclaim and record-setting sales figures.

Our Take:
A new Pokémon game for Nintendo Switch is not a guarantee, but it seems like the logical next step; traditionally, the core entries in the monster-collecting series have only ever released on Nintendo's handheld systems, and Switch's key selling point is that it's a half-handheld, half-console hybrid. A new Pokémon game would be a natural fit on the new hardware, and Nintendo needs as many ringers in their corner as they can get. Time will tell if this secret project is, indeed, a new Pokémon game or something else, but all signs are telling us that it won't be long before we set out to "catch 'em all" on Switch.
